An Evening of Poetry featuring: Shane Nielson, Cornelia Hoogland, Joe Denham, and Jim Johnstone

October 24th | 7:00 PM
Free to attend. Books will be available for purchase.

Rita Dove once said, "Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful." If this is in any way true we can anticipate an amazingly riveting night on October 24th as four incredible poets join us to present their latest collections in a discussion to be led by Victoria's own poet laureate, Yvonne Blomer.

Shane Nielson presents "Dysphoria", a heartfelt collection about mental illness. Jim Johnstone presents the darkly psychological The Chemical Life which deals with mental illness and depression. Joe Denham presents Landfall which is a direct and powerful collection described as a "call to arms." And Cornelia Hoogland tops off our night by presenting her long form poem Trailer Park Elegy that deals heavily in dark themes that run through it's intriguing narrative.

It isn't often we have the opportunity to hear four wordsmiths present their work at once. Join us for a beautiful and creative night full of top notch poetry.

Craig McInnes

October 26th | 7:00 PM
Free to attend. Books will be available for purchase.

From an early age many of us are told to put our faith in our government and judicial system, and many become jaded to these as they grow older. That is why people like Ted Hughes, people that vehemently defend the principles our society should strive for, are an asset not only to Canada but to justice as a whole. In The Mighty Hughes, Craig McInnes shares the story of the forward-looking prairie boy who eventually became BC's first Conflict-of-Interest Commissioner, and who eventually earned the title of "Canada's Moral Compass."
